Annie O'Dorisio

Annie O'Dorisio is an American artist working with pen, paper, and thread. These minimal and colourful pieces have a charming anonymity that stimulates the imagination.

These works create an interaction between pen and thread, with thread performing as line and pen as shape. The thread adds an extra dimension, and its real materiality adds a playful quality to the texture created by the pen work, which read like familiar knitting and weaving patterns. In her artist statement, O'Dorisio states, "the wool serves as not only a way to add sculptural dimension but as a vehicle of warmth."

The compositions Annie O'Dorisio creates in thread and ink are reminiscent of architecture, playground structures, and blueprints. Her playful and poetic titles also suggest a suiting reference to structures in the real world.
